Home energy management company Schneider Electric, best known to homeowners and electricians through its Square D brand, today announced Schneider Charge, a smart Level 2 residential EV charger now available in the U.S. and Canada. The new offering, with 11.5-kW/48-A charging output, is engineered to make home EV charging simpler and more affordable by helping homeowners add safe, reliable charging within the home’s existing electrical capacity.

Many homes were not designed to support high-power applications like EV charging, according to the company. For homeowners, that can turn a Level 2 charger installation into a larger electrical project, with service and panel upgrades often costing $2000 to $6500 or more.

Featuring SmartAmp, the company’s dynamic load-management technology, Schneider Charge monitors household electrical use in real time and automatically adjusts charging speed when other appliances need power. That helps homeowners maximize charging output without separate monitoring devices or additional system components.

“As homeowners buy EVs and add high-power electric technologies, many are realizing their existing electrical systems were not built for that level of demand,” said Shawn Bonacorsi, Head of Electrification Solutions at Schneider Electric North America. “Schneider Charge helps remove that installation hurdle by enabling safe, reliable Level 2 charging within a home’s existing electrical capacity, making EV charging simpler and easier at home where most charging takes place.”

Schneider Charge pairs built-in load management with installation support through Qmerit, a home EV charger installation and electrification services provider. Together, the partners help homeowners navigate the home charging process from charger selection to professional installation.

In addition to SmartAmp, key differentiators for Schneider Charge include no extra hardware required, with everything needed for load management included in the package, eliminating the need for separate monitoring devices or gateway systems. The offer supports smarter installation approaches, supporting managed-load installations in accordance with UL 3141, where accepted by the authority having jurisdiction. It works with today’s and future EVs, being available with NACS (J3400) or J1772 connector options. With smart app control, users can see and control charging in real time, with simple scheduling to save on energy costs.

SmartAmp uses included current transformers to monitor household electrical load in real time and automatically adjust charging speed as demand changes even when Wi-Fi is unavailable.

Schneider Charge is OCPP 1.6-compliant to support future grid service programs. The initial hardwired design for residential installations will get a plug-in version in early 2027.

The new offering expands Schneider Electric’s EV charging portfolio, complementing Schneider Charge Pro. The commercial Level 2 EV charger is designed for property owners, fleet operators, and site hosts across a range of commercial use cases including multi-unit dwellings, workplaces, public and destination charging locations, and fleet operations. The solution brings together integrated hardware, software, and services to reduce deployment complexity, improve uptime, and help scale EV infrastructure more efficiently across sites.

The commercial EV charger combines hardware with EV Connect Software+, a cloud-based charging station management system that enables site owners to monitor performance, manage access, and monetize charging stations across multiple locations. One year of EV Connect Software+ is included at activation, along with services such as proactive monitoring and driver support to help ensure reliable performance. An industry-leading five-year hardware warranty helps reduce risk and provides additional assurance for owners and operators.

Together, these capabilities help lower total cost of ownership by simplifying operations, reducing maintenance and maximizing charger availability.
