At Auto China 2026, GAC Commercial Vehicle officially launched Montx, a new off-road-experience-focused auto brand driven by the “New Breed, No Boundaries” ethos. The event marked the global premiere of two concept vehicles: the P10, described as “a multi-dimensional mobility platform,” and the V10, “an adaptive mobile hub.” Alongside the vehicles, the new brand introduced “Project Unbound,” a user co-creation initiative with the renowned Chinese travel vlogger and car world traveler behind Freeroad, inviting the global community to design the future of mobile living.

“Users don’t want passive tools,” said Du Peiyuan, General Manager of Montx. “They want the freedom to transition effortlessly between the boardroom and the backcountry. We created Montx to answer this exact need. By designing around real-life scenarios rather than traditional vehicle categories, we empower our users to build freer, more fulfilling lives.”

Built for the ultimate explorer, the P10 elevates the traditional pickup into a futuristic mobility hub. Finished in Fighter Jet Grey with armor-inspired textures, it is designed to be rugged and highly functional. It features quad-motor distributed drive and torque vectoring.

Its standout feature is a bed-mounted passenger drone framed in exposed carbon fiber. The addition is meant to bridge the gap between 2D roads and 3D airspace, turning unreachable terrain into accessible destinations.

The P10 is designed to act as a tactical co-pilot. Its advanced systems read the terrain ahead to adjust suspension on the fly, activate lighting in low-visibility conditions, and autonomously map out resupply routes before reaching camp.

Designed with the modern digital nomad in mind, the V10 reimagines mobile living. Its geometric exterior is designed to offer “the security of a fortress with the agility of an explorer.” An innovative four-way tailgate opens like a stage curtain, transforming into a viewing deck, panoramic window, and skylight to blend the cabin with the outdoors.

The V10’s cabin features a programmable layout that transitions from a mobile office to a social lounge or a sleeping cabin. Its steer-by-wire system allows the steering wheel to slide completely out of the way when parked, removing the physical barrier from the front row.

An intelligent onboard concierge automatically manages water, power, and climate control, ensuring a comfortable experience no matter how far off the grid its users go. The “Invisible Butler” can even call upon Proactive Biological Intelligence breathing for its user to “safeguard the final frontiers of civilization in the deep wild.”

An interesting element of the Montx off-road experience is an Adaptive Intelligent Architecture engineered for reliable safety, integrating the Starling Safety System with an adaptive, intelligent chassis. Combined with a high-rigidity body, the active safety protocols provide 360-degree protection.

As remote work grows, the new brand’s creators say that digital nomads are searching for the perfect vehicle—one that handles off-road trails just as well as it handles a video call. Recognizing that traditional RVs are often bulky and dedicated off-roaders lack living amenities, Montx is handing the design reins over to the users. That’s where its “co-creating the future” program comes in.

“Great cars aren’t built behind closed doors,” said Peiyuan.

To prove this, Montx launched “Project Unbound,” known in China as the Free to Roam initiative, backed by a million-yuan fund. The program invites users to directly influence product definition, spatial design, and smart features.

Partnering with Freeroad, created by personality YangLiTong (or TongTong), the project’s Chief Experience Officer says the initiative aims to turn bold ideas into reality.

“We don’t just want a commuter car,” said Freeroad. “We want a vehicle that lets us move our office to the beach and our home under the stars. This project is about turning blueprints into real-world freedom.”
