JLR finally announced today that its top-of-the-line Range Rover is now available with electric propulsion, bringing with it a new era of enhanced refinement and capability and marking a major milestone for the brand. The resulting vehicle is quieter, more effortless and responsive, and torquier than any Range Rover to date.

At the same time, Range Rover’s breadth of capability is uncompromised thanks to the combination of a powerful, adaptable electric powertrain and advanced chassis technologies that make every Range Rover peerless, accomplished, and desired. We took our testing and development programs even further than originally intended to ensure Range Rover Electric is genuinely the most accomplished Range Rover ever.”
First announced at the end of 2023 with planned production in 2024, Range Rover Electric’s gestation was extended by more exhaustive virtual and physical testing and development to ensure a customary Range Rover experience. The SUV has been driven over 1.5 million km (932,000 mi), the equivalent of 38 times around the world, during physical testing, including in -40°C (-40°F) temperatures in Arjeplog, Sweden, in the heat of the Dubai desert, and at JLR’s Eastnor Castle facility in the UK. It has undergone more than 250,000 h of virtual tests—more than any previous Range Rover.
To help maximize battery safety and quality, JLR’s new testing laboratory subjected batteries to extreme multi‑axis vibration and shock testing at ‑40° to +90°C (+194°F). Combined with a high-strength aluminium enclosure, this means the SUV is built to withstand high-impact knocks and jolts, while advanced safety features exceed industry standards.
Electrification upgrades
Following the principle of being a Range Rover first and Electric second, the vehicle’s exterior design is virtually unchanged, adding an aerodynamically optimized grille, wheels, and tailored underbody to maximize motorway range. The new model is said to highlight JLR’s flexible propulsion strategy, joining mild‑hybrid, plug‑in hybrid, and ICE models on the same EMA (Electrified Modular Architecture) vehicle architecture manufactured at Solihull in the UK.
Integrating electric propulsion into the flexible architecture, the Range Rover Electric features twin permanent-magnet 260-kW electric motors generating outputs up to 550 PS (405 kW) and 850 N·m (627 lb·ft). Range Rover Electric can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (0 to 97 km/h) in as little as 4.3 s, with impressive overtaking from 50 to 75 mph (80 to 120 km/h) in as little as 2.7 s.
The luxury SUV’s twin permanent-magnet electric motors are said to produce 20% more torque than other motors of the same size. They feature silicon carbide semiconductors that enable switching speeds measured in microseconds, balancing efficiency with performance on all surfaces.
Last year, JLR reported that the 800-V battery pack for the Range Rover Electric was the first one to be designed and built in‑house. Optimized for energy density, range, and charging times, it features a cell‑to‑pack architecture, high nickel (91%) content, and 118-kW·h capacity from 344 prismatic cells in a double‑stacked layout.
Range is up to 372 mi (599 km) by WLTP tests and up to 333 mi (535 km) in the “real world” based on a production vehicle over a standardized route.
The advanced 800-V architecture provides fast, adaptable split charging capability. Using 350-kW rapid DC public chargers, Range Rover Electric can charge from 10% to 80% in as fast as 22 min or add 220 km (137 mi) in 10 min, according to WLTP protocols.
In the UK and Europe, users have access to over one million public chargers, while in North America they get access to the Tesla Supercharger network, with built-in NACS compatibility. Home charging is by a new optional charger.
New technologies aimed at maximizing the SUV’s electric potential include innovative range prediction features and an advanced ThermAssist heat management system that optimizes driving range, charging speeds, battery longevity, and performance in extreme temperatures, adding up to 25 mi (40 km) of range and a 40% reduction of heating energy use. Over 300 patent applications have been filed for Range Rover Electric—the most for a single vehicle in the brand’s history.

From challenging low‑grip and rough terrain to smooth, high‑speed roads, it remains incredibly composed and refined, with a real sense of control and confidence. The responsiveness and precision of the new driveline control systems, enabled by electric propulsion, perfectly support this.”
A lower center of gravity from the battery mass down low and twin chamber air suspension enhance driving dynamics.
Among the key new chassis technologies are Intelligent Driveline Dynamics (IDD), which distributes rear torque from 100% to 0% to prevent loss of traction, and Integrated Traction Management (ITM), which controls motor speed within 50 ms and manages slip up to 100 times quicker than an ICE vehicle equivalent. ITM works with the new Single Pedal mode, providing more precise control to smoothly pull away up to 33‑degrees—a slope, Range Rover says, is as steep as a black‑diamond ski run—or complete a rolling climb up 45‑degree slopes. All-terrain drive capabilities include wading through up to 900 mm (35.4 in) of water.
Production updates
To support production of the electric model, JLR transformed its Solihull facility by combining advanced manufacturing, digital technology, and a major investment in electrification skills. Powering this transformation, 9000 Solihull manufacturing employees were upskilled for electrification, with a further 1500 colleagues trained across JLR’s wider West Midlands footprint.
“Range Rover Electric production at Solihull brings together more than five decades of Range Rover manufacturing expertise with the latest electrification and advanced manufacturing technology,” said Nigel Blenkinsop, Chief Operations Officer at JLR. “Range Rover creates significant value across the UK and Europe. Its production in Solihull supports thousands of businesses, with more than two‑thirds of supplier spend directed to UK and European suppliers.”
JLR’s wider manufacturing network will support Range Rover Electric production. Its Electric Propulsion Manufacturing Centre in Wolverhampton now produces battery packs and electric drive units alongside internal combustion engines, making it the UK’s largest internal combustion engine and electric powertrain production facility.
Its first phase of redevelopment covered 40,000 m2 and required more than two million hours of planning, engineering, construction, and commissioning over four years. The transformation has added 13 battery and electric drive unit manufacturing lines, supported by 9 km (5.6 mi) of conveyors and 182 km (113 mi) of power and data cabling.
Advanced AI‑enabled scanning cameras are integrated into the quality-checking process during electric drive unit manufacturing, ensuring critical components fit exacting refinement standards. Additionally, every battery cell is performance‑tested before insertion into a pack, which is again assessed for assembly integrity and performance before it’s fitted at Solihull.

Retailers have been similarly upskilled to guide customers through the Range Rover Electric journey.
Offered from £154,070 OTR in the UK, order books are now open in a choice of standard- or long‑wheelbase body designs in SE, HSE, and Autobiography specifications, as well as SV, SV Ultra, and SV Black. The aero-optimized grille shown to the media is market-dependent, with Range Rover SV Electric models retaining SV-exclusive grille design and SV-exclusive 22-in wheels.
A curated First Edition is available, finished in Belgravia Green, Santorini Black, or Varesine Blue, with newly introduced Light Cloud Ultrafabrics PU and Kvadrat interiors. A Range Rover Bespoke commissioning service offers an extended choice of paint colors and finishes, elevated materials, tailored color combinations, and personalization details including unique embroidery.
Owners can remotely connect to their electric SUV via a new app. Among the functions they can access are cabin purification, steering wheel heating, locking, live location, current charge status, and predicted driving range. Scheduled charging helps make the most of lower electricity rates.
To proactively improve serviceability and maintenance, each Range Rover Electric comes with a battery digital twin, which provides over 900 diagnostic data points, coupled with JLR’s over-the-air software update capability. Its propulsion system comes with an eight‑year or 100,000‑mi (160,000-km) warranty.
