At the recent SITEVI trade fair in Montpellier, France, for the wine, fruit, and olive-growing sectors, one of the longest-standing brands in agriculture and construction equipment took a significant step toward achieving zero emissions in its product portfolio. New Holland unveiled its new E15X Electric Power mini excavator, which is its first all-electric addition in a range of fifteen mini excavator models covering 1.0-6.5 ton that the company manufactures.
It is the first product to be introduced stemming from New Holland’s acquisition of Sampierana, S.p.A., an Italian company behind the engineering of the E15X, which was recognized with a Special Mention for a Technology Innovation Award at the EIMA Agricultural and Gardening Machinery Exhibition in 2022.
Powered by a 21.5-kWh lithium-ion battery, the E15X is the electric equivalent of New Holland’s diesel E14D model. The company said the new mini excavator’s charge can last for 4 h of use. A full 8-h working day can be achieved with intermittent use or a 1-h midday fast charge. Two variants of the E15X—Zero Tail Swing or Short Radius—will be available, enabling the machine to access the tightest spaces and perform indoor work.
As a zero-emission vehicle with very low operating noise, the E15X is designed for working in areas with emissions and noise restrictions. It’s built for a variety of applications, from agriculture and horticulture to landscaping, general digging, and demolition tasks.
To add to its environmentally friendly credentials, the electric mini excavator uses biological hydraulic oil and cobalt-free lithium batteries.
Founded in Pennsylvania and currently based in Italy, New Holland is a member company of the CNH Industrial portfolio, which also includes Steyr agricultural tractors, Raven digital agriculture technologies, and Flexi-Coil tillage and seeding systems.
New Holland’s E15X Electric Power Mini Excavator is available now, and more all-electric additions to the company’s product line are expected next year.
