At CES 2022, Los Angeles-based INDI EV founded in 2017 showed off its first vehicle, the INDI One, which it launched in October 2021. The new five-passenger family crossover is said by its maker to be the first vehicle to be equipped with an integrated supercomputer specifically to enrich the driving and digital life experience, by enabling drivers to create content and engage with audiences.

INDI EV claims its One is unique from other EVs, thanks to its VIC (Vehicle Integrated Computer), which it describes as the first-ever in-vehicle integrated supercomputer. Supported by an open-sourced network and software development kit for third-party developers, VIC offers an array of media hardware and services such as Life Assistant, a personalized virtual assistant equipped to learn driver habits and assist with everyday life tasks.

The vehicle includes a complete Microsoft Windows workstation that provides the ability to select and use multiple surround and internal cameras during Zoom calls and record events that can be shared on a variety of social media platforms. Advanced software allows riders to capture content on trips with multiple interior and exterior cameras, live stream videos, and even shoot, edit, and upload content to the cloud from the vehicle. The EV also features AAA gaming and VR (virtual reality) capabilities, turning the car into a mobile game center.

To maximize user safety, INDI EV also developed the HALO ADAS warning system, a suite of safety features consolidating all directional advanced driver assistance system warnings into one place that is easily visible to the driver. Fit with the HALO steering wheel, INDI EV says it aims to increase ADAS warning efficiency by providing one place for all warnings, using a strategy that is easy for all drivers to understand regardless of previous ADAS experience.

“We at INDI EV saw a disconnect in the software experience when consumers transition from using their computers and phones to getting into their cars,” said Andre Hudson, INDI EV Head of Design. “Enabled by an electric vehicle platform, we saw an opportunity to bridge this gap and elevate what your vehicle can enable you to do with INDI One. We see cars as more than just a mode of transportation, but as a device that empowers the ‘you do you’ mentality. Through smart design, artificial intelligence, and unparalleled customization features, we’re expanding the horizons of how your vehicle can support your life.”

The 5500-lb (2495-kg) One is 189 in (4800 mm) long, 78 in (1980 mm) wide, and 67 in (1700 mm) tall. It seats five people and has 43 ft³ (1218 L) of cargo space. Its all-wheel-drive platform contains a powertrain with a modularized 95-kW·h battery pack that can charge at 100 kW DC capable of a 300-mi (483-km) range. The vehicle’s 410 hp (306 kW) provides a 0-60 mph (0-97 km/h) time of 5.5 s and a top speed of 130 mph (209 km/h).

The official market launch of the One is slated for Q4 2022, with an expected MSRP of $45,000.
