Pave Motors this week announced expanded customization options for its BK electric motorbike, with a 16-color palette, including Jet Black, Navy Blue, Prospect Green, and Pure Orange, for both frame and body. The wider palette gives riders more flexibility “to make their bike feel personal while still unmistakably Pave.”
The company is also launching a new interactive online configurator that lets custumers see their updated BK bike in real-time as they choose colors, accessories, and performance features. Significantly, the BK now starts at $4995 and offers new financing options.
“The new configurator and expanded color range give riders far more freedom to make a Pave their own,” said Nico Nagel, Co-Founder of Pave Motors. “They can now explore colors and accessories in real time, and we’ll be rolling out even more ways to customize their BK in the near future.”
In addition to the new colors that Pave released for both body and frame, and the new base price, the company recently rolled out a set of updates focused on reliability and everyday usability, according to Nagel.
Recent software updates improve overall reliability, GPS tracking, and LTE connectivity. The seat locking mechanism was redesigned for better security and more intuitive use. The fits of the side panels and seat were refined to improve rigidity and overall build quality.
“These changes are now standard on all bikes shipping and reflect how we’re continuously iterating on the platform rather than waiting for big model-year releases,” he said.
The new customization options, color lineup, and configurator have gone live with the launch of Pave’s redesigned website. Pricing is updated as users configure their BK and review the new payment options.
Pave founding partners and brothers Nico and Caspar Nagel grew up riding through Berlin on two wheels, appreciating the precision and simplicity of a well-designed bike. In New York, they set out to revive that experience with an electric motorbike that feels intuitive, responsive, and precisely engineered. They founded the company in 2019 to create an electric motorbike shaped by modern engineering and a thoughtfully crafted riding experience, their team of designers and engineers focusing on building durable, beautifully balanced bikes, fully designed and assembled at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
The BK comes in a 30-mph (48-km/h) version that can be federally registered as a motor-driven cycle, while the 40-mph (64-km/h) version is sold for off-highway/non-public road use.
The BK is 68 in (1727 mm) long, 40 in (1016 mm) tall (excluding mirrors), 35 in (890 mm) wide (including mirrors), on a wheelbase of 48 in (1220 mm). Seat height is 32 in (800 mm).
Built on a lightweight 6061-T6 aluminum frame, the e-motorbike’s unladen weight is a road-ready 121 lb (55 kg), with a payload of 315 lb (143 kg), enabling a permitted total weight of 441 lb (200 kg).
A “super silent” brushless DC hub motor delivers a nominal 3 kW (equivalent to a 49-cm³ bike) and peak 6 kW and 200 N·m (148 lb·ft). The motor’s control unit is said to deliver exceptional power density and next-gen motor control precision.
It enables four ride modes. Eco features optimized powertrain settings and maximum regenerative braking for the longest range. Comfort balances performance and range. Sport gives maximum power and acceleration. Boost provides a temporary surge in power with the press of a button. Peak acceleration from 0 to 30 mph (48 km/h) is 3.5 s.
The removable traction battery, located under the bike’s shock-absorbent bench seat sized for two adults, provides a 50-mi (80-km) range. It is a 48-V Samsung SDI unit with 21700 cells with 1.98-kW·h energy and 39-A·h charging capacity.
It features a cable-free drop-in design for easy battery swaps. The removable design can charge anywhere with a standard outlet. It is compact and lightweight—about 25 lb (11 kg)—for easy carrying. A proprietary battery-management system monitors battery health via app integration.
An additional battery, which adds 1.98 kW·h, can be fitted to double the range.
Charging from 0 to 80% capacity takes 7 h with the stock charger and 3 h with a fast charger, with 0-100% taking 11 h with a stock charger and 4 h with a fast charger.
The front suspension is by an inverted fork with 60 mm (2.4 in) of travel. Wheels are 14 x 1.85 in front and 14 x 2.15 in rear, with front 80/90-14 and rear 100/80-14 tires. Braking is by front and rear hydraulic discs featuring a lightweight single-piston design, and integrated regenerative braking boosts efficiency.
A spring-loaded mount between the handlebars holds phones of any make or size, extending the bike’s display for easy, safe, and efficient navigation.
There are two interesting options for storage.
A basket that integrates into the bike’s frame provides 52 L (1.8 ft³) for groceries, everyday essentials, and work-related items. It features an aluminum frame with durable fabric side walls for lightweight strength and quick-release expandable walls to accommodate oversized items.
A sturdy, multi-purpose rear carrier accommodates two saddle bags and provides a secure flat surface with an adjustable bungee cord for strapping cargo down. The design mounts to the frame and is made of robust powder-coated aluminum to support up to 75 lb (34 kg) of cargo.
