At the Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo today, in-car experience company N-Dream, recently acquired by KPIT Technologies, announced a collaboration involving its AirConsole in-car gaming platform, Mattel, Inc., and BMW launching Hot Wheels: Xtreme Overdrive as an exclusive title for BMW customers. It follows the availability of Mattel’s UNO Car Party!, expanding in-car entertainment with the world’s number one selling toy—according to marketing analytics firm Circana—into the automotive space and social play.
Visitors to the BMW Group stand in Tokyo can experience the in-car gaming via AirConsole as introduced with BMW Operating System 8.5. The Neue Klasse BMW iX3 will offer this feature.
AirConsole will also release PAC-MAN Championship Edition from Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc. to BMW for the first time. This brand-specific version of the arcade classic has been customized with exclusive BMW items, bringing a unique twist to one of the world’s best-known games.
A signature feature of Hot Wheels: Xtreme Overdrive is the Panoramic Drive track, a level where players can race Hot Wheels cars inside BMW’s Vision Neue Klasse X, the production version of which is the iX3. Beyond the track, players can also get behind the wheel of a car inspired by the iX3, to race alongside a variety of classic Hot Wheels vehicles. This unique integration is a celebration of BMW’s next-generation design, brought to life through play, and will be exclusive for the auto brand’s drivers until June 2026, underscoring its role as a frontrunner in in-car entertainment innovation.
With Hot Wheels: Xtreme Overdrive, players can earn points from races, unlock legendary Hot Wheels cars, and customize them—making every race a personal showcase of skill and style. Gamers can choose from a lineup of 8 Hot Wheels vehicles as well as an exclusive iX3. They can zoom through six courses, including the Panoramic Drive track built inside the Neue Klasse X.
Race options for every player are Quick Race, Cup Mode, and Custom Track mode. Up to four players can join the fun with smartphones as controllers. Players can unlock and customize cars to show off custom looks on the track.
According to N-Dream, in-car gaming is expanding rapidly, and players expect not only seamless integration but also exciting, recognizable content. The in-car experience company says it continues to deliver by listening closely to users and anticipating market needs, making the car a new frontier for shared entertainment.
“Cars are no longer just about driving them; they’re becoming entertainment hubs,” said Anthony Cliquot, CEO of N-Dream. “BMW’s continuous investment in exclusive content with AirConsole is a testament to in-car entertainment’s growing importance. With BMW and Mattel, we’re proving that the passenger experience can be as iconic as the drive itself.”
Since 2022, the BMW Group and N-Dream have been pioneering in-car gaming, bringing intuitive and innovative gameplay to BMW vehicles. AirConsole’s portfolio on BMW vehicles now includes more than 30 games across racing, sports, arcade, strategy, and party genres. Highlight titles include Overcooked from Team 17, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? from Sony Pictures, UNO Car Party! from Mattel, and now PAC-MAN Championship Edition from Bandai Namco.
“Stationary drivers” can use AirConsole’s unique controller system to connect any passenger to the game with their smartphones. They can access AirConsole directly through the BMW infotainment system. Pairing is by scanning a QR code in the vehicle, connecting a smartphone as the controller, and starting play instantly.
AirConsole is available in current BMW and Mini models with Operating System 9 in combination with BMW Digital Premium/Mini Connected Package, and with BMW Operating System 8.5 in combination with BMW ConnectedDrive Professional. It will also be available in the new vehicle generation with BMW Operating System X, starting with the new iX3.
