In the lead up to IAA Mobility show in Munich, Avatr Technology, the design-focused brand of Chinese automaker Changan Automobile and battery maker CATL, introduced what it calls the world’s first Emotive Intelligent (EI) vision car. The Avatr Vision Xpectra made its debut at the “Brilliant New Horizon Avatr Brand Day” at Utopia München and joins an impressive design lineup of “Star Models” from the Chinese electric vehicle startup in Munich, Germany.
It gets top billing with the limited-edition Avatr 012 co-created with Kim Jones (the Artistic Director of Menswear for Louis Vuitton, Womenswear for Fendi, and Dior Homme), a custom Avatr 11 Royal Edition, Avatr 07 urban luxury SUV, and Avatr 6 luxury sports sedan. These models, forming a “new luxury matrix,” are meant to showcase the brand’s achievements in original design and intelligent technology.
“Avatr Vision Xpectra is an Emotional Intelligence companion shaped by energy and connected through emotion,” said Nader Faghihzadeh, Chief Design Officer at Avatr. “Here, every journey becomes a vivid declaration of ‘Emotive Luxury.’”
The concept debut reflects the brand’s exploration centered on delivering future mobility experiences “that surpass expectations and redefine imagination.”
“Avatr is not merely an electric vehicle company,” said Chen Zhuo, President of Avatr Technology. “We embody high-end sophistication. We are defined by intelligence and driven by design and technology. However, what truly defines us is emotion.”
The concept was born at Avatr’s Global Design Center in Munich, Germany, led by Faghihzadeh. The center brings together nearly 200 creatives from 25 countries, integrating Europe’s design heritage and forward-looking aesthetic concepts with an understanding of future intelligent vehicles to shape the brand’s unique design philosophy.
Avatr says its vision car aims to convey a sense of new luxury defined by seamless connection and multi-dimensional integration. Its design inspiration comes from “the power of natural energy.”
The exterior, sculpted with clear and precise strokes, is meant to present “a bold and composed style reflecting the contours of power.”
One of the most unique exterior design aspects is the glazing. The crystal-inspired Prismatic Glass Cabin features upright A-pillars to create a spacious and light-filled cabin that radiates a warm, welcoming interior.
The Exterior Wakeup & Recognition greeting is meant to make the Xpectra seem like a living entity, sensing and reacting with its exterior lights. These include the Exterior Avatr Signature Lights beneath the surface that follow a user’s presence and movement, creating “a moment of recognition and emotional connection” and “a sense of intelligence and vitality.” It relies on an intelligent system that senses its surroundings and the user, enabling multi-dimensional, emotive interactions through advanced sensors.
The interior, dubbed a Responsive Capsule, blends refined materials with advanced technologies to create a space that’s intuitive, personal, and “deeply human.” Dynamic ambient lighting reacts, adapts, and amplifies gestures and signals—and evolves in real time.
The interior’s CMF (color material finish) highlights, under the Alabaster Shimmer banner, combine nubuck leather, contoured 3D knits, and inflatable forms for softness—bathed in light refracting through lavender glass. When the doors open, dynamic lamellas extend the dashboard outward in a flowing gesture. Each element aligns with precision to emphasize the modern craftsmanship.
The Vortex floating above the dash is the heart of the car’s emotional intelligence. More than an interface, the “living AI entity” anticipates users’ needs and learns, engaging through light, motion, and intuition to form a deep emotional connection.
Between the Vortex and dash is a new transparent take on Avatr’s signature band display, revealing contextual information based on the car’s active intelligence level.
The Cortex at the front edge of the center console is the central hub of interaction, combining touch and gesture control to adapt the level of emotional intelligence. It enables smooth transitions between advanced assistive drive and fully autonomous mode.
The Personalized VPA x Reflex Sound concept transforms the cabin into an immersive experience. By capturing each user’s unique voice qualities, the VPA evolves using particles, light, and sound into a one-of-a-kind assistant.
Accessories developed for the concept—including champagne glasses and carry-on luggage—extend the Emotive Luxury theme.
From its Munich design base, in collaboration with company facilities in Chongqing and Shanghai, China, Avatr is looking to accelerate its global expansion. It plans on doing that by not only redefining the value perception of new luxury with Emotive Luxury but also by injecting systematic R&D, manufacturing, quality assurance, and global synergy advantages from Changan’s engineering and manufacturing experience, CATL’s leading technology in battery safety and energy efficiency, and continuous innovation from ICT (information and communication technology) partners in smart mobility.
Currently, Avatr has four models—11, 12, 07, and 06—as well as two limited-edition flagship co-branded models—011 and 012. Outside China, the brand is marketing its luxury electric vehicles in Thailand, the UAE, and Singapore. This year, it plans to enter over 50 countries and regions, establishing a network of over 160 channels to accelerate its “globalization process.”
