Infinite Machine announced this week that it is opening up the second production batch for its P1 flagship electric scooter for customers in the U.S., the new Batch II a limited run of 250 First Edition vehicles. It follows the initial announcement of the e-scooter in October 2023 that the Brooklyn, NY-based startup believes is a breakthrough vehicle for cities, with best-in-class performance, an iconic design, next-generation technology, and unparalleled utility.
The company is being steered by brothers Joseph and Eddie Cohen, lifelong vehicle enthusiasts, who wanted to build vehicles that fit their lives—inspiring designs with great performance and deep practicality—and show an exciting vision for the future of transportation.
The P1 was created out of their dissatisfaction with existing two-wheel electric vehicles. They say that, on one side of the spectrum, are plastic, low-end vehicles with subpar performance and rudimentary technology. On the other end are legacy companies that struggle to adapt to the possibilities of electrification, new technology, and modern sensibilities. As lifelong New Yorkers, the brothers saw an opportunity to build the ultimate vehicle for exploring and navigating their home city.
“Our mission is to inspire a post-car future by building the best alternatives to cars,” said Joseph Cohen, CEO of Infinite Machine. “That starts with P1.”
Offering Batch II vehicles is the next step as the company gears up toward higher-volume production.
“We had great success with our original P1 production batch, and we want to build on that momentum by opening up further orders for deliveries next year,” added Eddie Cohen, Co-founder & President of Infinite Machine. “We are also hosting a summer tour in New York, the Hamptons, Aspen, LA, and San Francisco, to expand our reach and showcase our scooters nationwide.”
With a team of engineers and designers, they created “the vehicle of their dreams,” drawing inspiration from Brutalist architecture, consumer technology, and artists like minimalist Donald Judd. The P1 features planar anodized aluminum panels, a powder-coated steel chassis, and an iconic, rectangular, front daytime running light.
However, the P1 is not just about looks, said Zach Cooper, Co-founder & Chief Engineer.
“P1 is the fastest product in its class,” he said. “In performance mode, P1 can travel at speeds of up to 55 mph, with lightning-quick acceleration, with an additional turbo boost. It’s also nimble, with a tight turning radius, making city and traffic navigation effortless and fun.”
The e-scooter can seat two passengers comfortably and can be operated up to speeds of 30 mph (48 km/h) with a standard driver’s license in the U.S. With a motorcycle license, a software unlock enables speeds of up to 55 mph (88 km/h), with quick acceleration from a 6-kW (12-kW peak) hub motor.
It can be parked between two cars on a standard city street, and its removable battery allows for in-home charging. With a 3.2-kW·h, 45-A·h, 72-V battery system, riders will get 60 mi (97 km) of city riding on a full charge from the UL-certified battery compatible with standard household outlets.
With today’s announcement, the company provided more details on the P1’s technology package. Its automotive-grade dashboard and infotainment system run Apple CarPlay and InfiniteOS, its proprietary operating system that is upgradeable with over-the-air updates.
“To match its beauty and performance, software integration makes it smart, incorporating Apple CarPlay for the first time in a vehicle of its kind,” said Eddie Cohen. “P1 is the most practical two-wheeler in the market. It features a novel modular system for all kinds of modules, from cargo to loudspeakers to whatever we can dream of. There is ample storage throughout the vehicle, a large pocket under the steering cluster, and a storage container beneath the seat.”
The P1 can be controlled with a companion app with remote unlocking and a cloud-based theft detection system. It can be unlocked and started with just a phone and access can be shared with NFC (near-field communication).
Front and rear cameras are used for theft prevention, safety, and content creation. GPS and other mechanical and digital technologies ensure that the P1 is not tampered with. When away from their vehicle, customers can use the P1’s Apple iOS and Google Android apps for remote unlock, vehicle access, and location tracking. P1 has a secure, built-in helmet lock for convenience and safety.
The P1 is designed to ensure what’s needed for daily commuting essentials, shopping (including a bag hook in the center step-thru console), and holding recreational gear is easily accessible and securely stored. The company is exploring a modular system of accessories that allows for customization for added cargo space and functionality.
P1 Launch Edition starts at $10,000. With a $1000 deposit, customers can order P1 now, with deliveries in 2025 in the U.S. Customers outside of the U.S. can add their names to a waitlist.
