Living Vehicle Inc. has released more details on its luxury electric trailer inspired by the angular design of Tesla’s Cybertruck. Revealed in May, its CyberTrailer “off-grid smart home on wheels” is designed to stand apart from traditional RVs by being more independent from utility connections for adventurers who want freedom from the limitations of conventional camping setups.

The luxury camper provides independent power for all its needs and additional power for the tow vehicle when off-grid. According to its maker, it uses redundant power sources, including advanced solar panels and backup power generation systems, to venture farther off-grid than any other RV on the market.

“The main limitation to current all-electric RV design is charging and utility infrastructure,” said Living Vehicle CEO and Co-founder Matthew Hofmann. “The CyberTrailer is resource-independent and can venture to nature without needing RV parks or charging stations.”

Living Vehicle is the culmination of Matthew’s and wife (and CMO) Joanna Hofmann‘s decade of experience designing and living in mobile spaces and was co-founded with Matthew’s father, Walter Hofmann, Chief Service Officer. The company is focused on creating “sustainable, high-end mobile living solutions for a nomadic lifestyle.” Headquartered in Santa Barbara, CA, it wants to set the standard for off-grid travel and has produced solar-powered electric travel trailers since 2017.

The CyberTrailer harnesses the sun’s power with up to 5 kW of off-grid solar production, which Living Vehicle says is unprecedented in the RV industry and matches home solar systems. (For comparison, the L1 from electric RV innovator Lightship, covered by Futurride here, features up to 3 kW of solar power.) Integrated solar panels cover the CyberTrailer’s entire roof surface and solar-tracking awnings tilt towards the sun to maximize the most energy capturing possible.

The redundant backup power generation ensures the RV battery pack remains charged when solar exposure is limited. This dual-power solution creates rapid energy and supports 240-V Level 2 charging for towing EVs and recreational equipment such as e-bikes, motorcycles, and scooters.

The CyberTrailer supports RV enthusiasts with proprietary powered axles to dramatically reduce range loss during towing by electric- and ICE-powered tow vehicles. Extensive engineering efforts are aimed at optimizing the CyberTrailer’s aerodynamic performance to achieve maximum power and fuel efficiency with all tow vehicles. These innovations are intended to allow travel to more remote, off-grid locations.

“We are committed to making off-grid adventures more accessible,” said CEO Hofmann. “Self-powered trailer axles are a game changer for reaching the most remote destinations. The CyberTrailer reduces range anxiety and makes off-grid travel with electric vehicles a reality. With our innovative technology, every journey can become limitless.”

The company says that the CyberTrailer is ideally paired with EV pickup trucks like the Cybertruck, Ford F-150 Lightning, and Rivian R1T but is also compatible with conventional half-ton ICE (internal combustion engine) vehicles. High-power alternators in ICE tow vehicles could provide a backup power source to the electrified trailer, the versatility ensuring accessibility to all, regardless of their vehicle’s propulsion type.

The CyberTrailer features Living Vehicle’s signature folding patio deck. Located on the trailer’s rear, it doubles as an outdoor lounging space and lowers to the ground as a ramp for transporting larger recreational equipment such as motorcycles, bicycles, and kayaks.

A proprietary water generation system, borrowed from Living Vehicle’s other travel trailer models, extracts moisture from the air. The system, combined with advanced recycling processes, enables owners to extend travel without water or waste hookups.

Living Vehicle says it will unveil additional design details and innovative features of the CyberTrailer later this summer.

Starting at $175,000, interested buyers can reserve a spot on the RV waitlist with a fully refundable $100 deposit placed on the company’s website. Deliveries are planned to begin in 2025.
