At CES 2022, Israel-based REE Automotive Ltd. announced it is set to begin customer trials of its all-new P7 platform, which is designed for commercial delivery vehicles and walk-in vans. The platform, targeted for a U.S.-based delivery van program, was designed based on functional and operational specifications from one of the world’s largest delivery companies.
The P7 has a max payload of up to 8800 lb (3990 kg), enabling it to carry up to 35% more packages than comparable Class 3-5 commercial vehicles. It can also comfortably carry up to 30 passengers, making it a platform for target markets such as delivery and logistic fleet owners, transit authorities, school buses, and mobility operators.
The P7 modular platform is designed to shorten the development times of electric commercial models and is optimized for fleet owners looking to create their own commercial vehicle brand, unique design, and market differentiation utilizing the REE configuration. REEcorner and x-by-wire technologies enable a minimal turning radius of 40 ft (12.2 m) and allow each wheel to move independently for enhanced driving dynamics and safety with all-wheel steer, drive, and brake options.
Last year, REE nominated American Axle & Manufacturing (AAM) to supply high-performance electric drive units and Brembo to co-develop and supply the braking system.
“True to our vision of providing complete modularity and versatility, this platform can be configured in different sizes and optimized to suit a particular application and use case,” said Daniel Barel, REE Automotive Co-founder and CEO. “The P7 will utilize REE-Hitachi’s Data and Application as-a-service capabilities of injecting intelligence and actionable insight info fleet operations and affording fleet owners complete visibility over their operations, allowing faster time to market, lower total ownership costs, and a suite of lifecycle services.”
REE Automotive claims electric and autonomous vehicles built on its P7 platforms will be able to achieve driving ranges of up to 370 mi (595 km), maximum speeds of 80 mph (128 km/h), and support gross vehicle weight ratings of up to 16,500 lb (7480 kg). Battery capacity is up to 120 kW·h. The vehicle’s four electric motors each offer a peak power output of 100 kW. The maximum payload is listed at 8800 lb (3990 kg).
The company also says the P7 platform offers the most interior space on the smallest footprint, due to end-to-end fully flat chassis and low floor design. Cargo volume is up to 1400 ft³ (39.6 m³).
In addition to unveiling the P7 platform, REE’s combined in-person and virtual exhibit at CES 2022 includes its new Leopard autonomous delivery vehicle concept, which the company announced in November.
Earlier last year, REE Automotive announced a new strategic collaboration agreement with Magna to build modular electric vehicles for tech companies and new electric mobility providers.
